FUND STRATEGY
The portfolio may invest in listed and unlisted financial instruments that will only be limited by the statutory limitations placed on the inclusion of financial instruments in portfolios. At all times at least 80% of the portfolio’s investments will be in listed equity securities. The Funds limits will be aligned with that of the Asisa Fund Classification: SA – Equity – General. The portfolio may invest in financial instruments, in accordance with the provisions of the Act, and the Regulations thereto, as amended from time to time, as well as in offshore investments as permitted by legislation, in order to achieve the portfolio’s investment objective. The manager may from time to time invest in participatory interests in portfolios of collective investment schemes registered in the Republic of South Africa and which are consistent with the portfolio’s investment policy.

Piet has over 25 years of experience in the investment industry. He started out as a lecturer at the University of Pretoria, before joining the South African Reserve Bank as an economic analyst. Piet discovered value investing at Allan Gray Investment Counsel, where he became a portfolio manager in 1991. In 1995, Viljoen moved to Investec Asset Management where he built up a following as the portfolio manager of the Investec Opportunity Fund before leaving to set up value manager RECM (Regarding Capital Management) in 2003. RECM merged with like-minded firm Counterpoint Asset Management in 2020 where Piet continues to manage funds with mandates that suit his value-oriented style. In addition to his fund management responsibilities he is a director of various listed and unlisted businesses.

What is tax-free investing?
Tax-free investing does not require payment of tax on interest and dividends earned, nor on capital gains. In a tax free investment, you may invest up to R36 000 per tax year and up to R500 000 over your lifetime.

Yes you may withdraw from a tax-free investment. After withdrawing a portion, you cannot reinvest more to your investment if you’ve already contributed to the maximum limit for that tax year.

Can I change my monthly recurring debit order, make additional investments or withdraw money?
Yes, you are able to change your monthly recurring debit order – provided it’s not less than the minimum of the fund you are invested in. You’re also able to make additional investments and withdraw money at any time. You can do this online via Secure Services, rather than through Smart Invest itself.
Note: If a debit order collection date falls on a non-business day, we will collect it on the first available business day thereafter.
Once you commit to investing, you have the option of paying a lump sum amount once off or a lump sum payment as often as you would like. The minimum lump sum deposit is R10 000.00. You may invest monthly at a minimum of R500.00.
How much notice is required to withdraw my money?
No notice is required to withdraw money from a unit trust investment. It takes 2 – 3 business days for a withdrawal instruction to be processed from the time the instruction is successfully submitted.
What are the fees charged?
